Alvarez worked as Professor of Painting and Drawing at the Elementary School of Art Oscar Fernández Morera in Trinidad in 1985 and 1986.

He was part of the Faculty of Art Education of the Superior Pedagogical Institute Enrique José Varona in Havana between 1991 and 1993.

In 1996 he led a workshop at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cuenca, in the capacity of guest artist.
